Today, 9th September
2025, the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA) extension
workers, led by Aminu Ibrahim, Director Extension Services, KNARDA, alongside
some members of the management staff, paid an agricultural excursion visit to
the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The purpose of the
visit was to deepen collaboration and expose the KNARDA team to the Institute’s
extensive work in agricultural innovation, technology development, and
farmer-oriented research. The excursion was designed to strengthen the bridge
between research outputs and field-level application, ensuring that farmers in
Kano and beyond continue to benefit from cutting-edge agricultural practices.
The team was warmly
received and taken through key departments, laboratories, and experimental
units, where they interacted with researchers and technical experts. They
learned about the Institute’s achievements in crop breeding, soil fertility
management, irrigation research, mechanization, and extension approaches that have
consistently supported Nigeria’s quest for food security.
Special emphasis was
given to how IAR technologies are developed with farmers in mind, ensuring
adaptability to local conditions and sustainability. The team expressed
admiration for the depth of work carried out by IAR scientists and noted the
importance of taking such knowledge to the grassroots through extension
services.
The visit ended on an
inspiring note, with renewed commitment from both IAR and KNARDA to strengthen
partnerships, enhance farmer training, and scale up technology dissemination
for the benefit of farmers and the nation at large.
