IAR Commissions Table Water Production Facility, Strengthening Innovation and Institutional Sustainability

The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Samaru, Zaria, has taken another significant step towards promoting innovation, enterprise, and institutional sustainability with the successful commissioning of its IAR Table Water Production Facility today 12th August 2026 at the IAR Tissue Culture Biofactory.

The commissioning ceremony brought together members of the University, leaders of Agric/Vet Complex and IAR Management, staff, stakeholders, and distinguished guests. The Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Ahmed Adamu, was ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Bello Sabo, who joined the IAR community to mark this important milestone.

In his welcome address, the Executive Director of IAR, Prof. Ado Yusuf, described the project as more than the launch of a new product. He noted that the initiative reflects IAR’s commitment to transforming ideas and institutional resources into practical ventures that generate value for the University and wider society. He highlighted its potential to contribute to internally generated revenue, employment creation, institutional capacity building, and sustainable resource utilization.

Prof. Yusuf expressed appreciation to the University Management for its support and commended the staff whose dedication contributed to the planning, installation, testing, and preparation of the facility. He expressed confidence that IAR Table Water will grow into a reputable brand recognized for quality, affordability, reliability, and excellent service.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bello Sabo congratulated the Institute on the establishment of the facility and described the initiative as a laudable demonstration of creativity, enterprise, and institutional progress. He assured IAR of the University’s continued support while emphasizing the importance of proper management, regular maintenance, quality assurance, and effective publicity to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.

The highlight of the occasion was the official cutting of the ribbon by Prof. Bello Sabo, formally commissioning the IAR Table Water production facility. The dignitaries subsequently embarked on a guided tour of the facility, where they inspected the production infrastructure and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the installation and the vision behind the initiative.

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Director of IAR, Prof. Nafiu Abdu, who appreciated the University Management, IAR Management, staff, stakeholders, and distinguished guests for their support and participation.

The commissioning of the IAR Table Water marks another milestone in the Institute’s journey towards research commercialization, innovation, enterprise development, institutional sustainability, and community service.
