The Institute for Agricultural Research
(IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, proudly took part in the 2025 Wet Season
Agricultural Performance Survey (APS), an exercise organized by the National
Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Service (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello
University in collaboration with relevant partners across the Nigerian
agricultural sector. The survey took place between 31st August 2025 to 6th
September 2025.
Representing IAR was Dr. Sharhabil Musa
Yahaya, the Head of the Agricultural Extension Unit, who joined other experts
in contributing to the survey activities where they covered Jigawa and Kano
States. The APS is a nationwide assessment designed to provide an accurate and
comprehensive overview of agricultural performance across Nigeria during the
cropping season.
The survey captures essential data on
production levels, input usage, pest and disease incidence, climate-related
challenges, and post-harvest outcomes across all crops cultivated in the
country. This ensures that policymakers, researchers, and development partners
have reliable information to guide planning, interventions, and agricultural
policies.
Through its participation, IAR reaffirmed
its commitment to evidence-based agricultural development and to supporting
Nigeria’s drive for improved productivity, food security, and resilience in the
face of climate and economic challenges.
Together
with NAERLS and other partners, IAR continues to play a vital role in ensuring
that the APS remains a cornerstone for advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
