The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Samaru

Today, 11th September 2025, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, officially launched its SERVICOM Unit at the Institute’s Old Conference Room. This milestone marks a bold step towards strengthening transparency, accountability, and efficiency in service delivery within the Institute.

The programme opened with welcome remarks by the Executive Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf, ably represented by the Deputy Director, Prof. Nafiu Abdu, who explained that the SERVICOM Unit was established to handle complaints, monitor service delivery, and evaluate departmental performance. He encouraged all staff, students, and stakeholders to embrace the unit and give it their full cooperation.

The Head of the SERVICOM Unit, Dr. Lemuel Musa Maniyunda, presented the official mandate and mission of the unit, emphasizing that SERVICOM (Service Compact with All Nigerians) is designed to make public service more effective, timely, and people-oriented. He assured participants that the unit will serve as a link between IAR and the public, ensuring fairness, accountability, and quality service.

A goodwill message from Barrister O. O. Oshuntoye of ABU SERVICOM commended IAR for setting up the unit and advised the team to remain steadfast in their duties. The highlight of the event was the official launch of the SERVICOM Unit and Charter, performed by Prof. Nafiu Abdu, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks from Prof. A. I. Sharifai, Assistant Director Extension, Monitoring, and Evaluation.

With this launch, IAR has reaffirmed its commitment to building a culture of excellence, transparency, and responsiveness in public service delivery, ensuring that staff, students, and stakeholders experience the highest standard of service.
