Today, 1st September 2025, the Dakace Youth Multipurpose Cooperative Society (DAYCOS) embarked on an excursion and familiarization visit to the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The visit was designed to strengthen collaboration, expose
members of the cooperative to modern agricultural innovations, and inspire
youth involvement in agribusiness. DAYCOS, known for its vibrancy and
commitment to youth empowerment in agriculture, came in large numbers with
great enthusiasm to learn from the Institute’s wealth of experience.
The group was warmly received by Agricultural Extension Staff.
Members were taken around the Institute’s departments, laboratories, and
research fields, where they gained practical insights into the latest
agricultural technologies, improved seed varieties, mechanization tools, soil
management techniques, and post-harvest innovations.
The interactive session allowed DAYCOS members to ask questions,
share their experiences, and discuss possible areas of partnership with IAR. It
was a moment of knowledge exchange where the cooperative appreciated the
Institute’s pivotal role in supporting farmers and promoting food security in
Nigeria.
Leaders of DAYCOS expressed their gratitude to the Institute,
noting that the visit was not only enlightening but also motivating. They
pledged to cascade the knowledge gained to their members and communities to
improve farming practices.
The atmosphere throughout the visit was filled with excitement,
optimism, and mutual respect. Everyone departed with renewed hope and
determination to build stronger synergies for the transformation of
agriculture.
This visit once again highlights IAR’s commitment to engaging
with youth groups, farmer cooperatives, and communities in advancing
sustainable agriculture, food security, and economic empowerment.
