PROMOTING NIGERIA’S FOOD SECURITY: IAR’S COURTESY VISIT TO MEDIA
TRUST GROUP
The Institute for
Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University, recently embarked on a
strategic courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Media Trust Group, owners
of Daily Trust, Weekend Trust, Teen Trust, Digital Trust, Aminiya, Trust TV,
and Trust Radio. The visit aimed to seek public support and create awareness
for the Institute’s groundbreaking work on a new maize variety poised to reduce
Nigeria’s dependency on maize imports and significantly contribute to
addressing the nation’s food security challenges.
Leading the delegation
was the Deputy Director of IAR, Prof. Nafiu Abdu, who highlighted the
transformative potential of this maize variety in bolstering local production,
empowering farmers, and enhancing national resilience against food crises.
During the visit, IAR shared insights into the extensive research and
development efforts that culminated in the new variety.
