Institute for Agricultural Research

Yesterday, 23rd November 2024, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, extended its ongoing distribution of farm inputs and implements to Gusau, Zamfara State.

Deputy Director Prof. Nafiu Abdu, Assistant Director Extension, Monitoring, and Evaluation Prof. A.I. Sharifai, and Dr. Jamilu Garba, Officer in Charge of Irrigation Research Station, Talatan Mafara, led the event, ensuring that farmers received the necessary tools and inputs directly without intermediaries. The items distributed included fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, improved seeds, sprayers, planters, threshers and rice reapers.

This vital intervention is part of a collaborative effort championed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security under Hon. Abubakar Kyari and the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning led by Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu (CON). These ministries’ steadfast support underscores their commitment to empowering Nigerian farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity.

Farmers in Zamfara expressed profound gratitude, emphasizing how these inputs will transform their farming practices and improve yields. They lauded the transparency and efficiency of the distribution process, which directly connects them with the resources they need to thrive.

The IAR team, through initiatives like this, remains at the forefront of driving agricultural innovation, ensuring sustainability, and supporting farmers across the country.
