Abuja, 16th August 2023 - The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Samaru, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Shehu Garki Ado, a renowned figure in the field of agricultural research, as the new Chairman of the Technical Sub-Committee of the National Variety Release Committee (NVRC) at the National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (Nacgrab Fmst). The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated 3rd August 2023 by the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Nabda NG), under the Federal Ministry Of Science And Technology, Abuja, Nigeria.
With an impressive legacy of accomplishments in agricultural research, Professor Shehu Garki Ado's appointment comes as a natural progression in his illustrious career. He takes over from the esteemed Professor Olusoji Olufajo, under whose guidance the committee has thrived.
The NVRC's Technical Sub-Committee is entrusted with the pivotal task of providing indispensable technical support to the National Committee responsible for validating and overseeing the naming, registration, and release of novel crop varieties, livestock breeds, and fish strains within Nigeria. This committee's decisions play a critical role in enhancing agricultural productivity, food security, and sustainable development for the nation.
