Revolutionizing Agriculture with TELA Maize Technology
Seeking to uplift smallholder farmers in Nigeria, the TELA maize project is on a mission to drive innovation straight to their doorstep. Led by Principal Investigator Prof Rabiu Adamu, along with Dr. Maimuna Abdulmalik (Lead Regulatory Advocacy and Outreach) and Mr. Yakubu Dodo (Lead Regulatory Advocacy Outreach Communication), the project collaborated with partners from AATF for a strategic session in Abuja this week. Together with stakeholders from various sectors, they devised tailored messaging strategies to engage farmers, seed companies, policymakers, academia, and the public. The recent session also involved training selected seed companies on Licensing and Stewardship, ensuring certified seeds reach farmers this season. Dr. Muhyideen Oyekunle, the Traits Pipeline Testing lead, elucidated the qualities of transgenic maize varieties like SAMMAZ 72T, 73T, 74T, and 75T, empowering farmers and seed companies to make informed planting decisions. With initiatives like these our own seed company BETA Seed Company represented by Mr. Ado Yakubu Doguwa, was not left out. The institute aims to meet the needs of Nigerian farmers comprehensively.
