Today, 10th June 2026, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, had the pleasure of hosting students and staff of St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary, Catholic Diocese of Zaria, on an educational excursion visit to the Institute.

The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to agricultural research, innovation, and technology development, complementing their classroom learning with practical experiences from one of Nigeria’s foremost agricultural research institutions.

During the excursion, the students were taken on a guided tour of various sections of the Institute, where they were introduced to ongoing research activities, improved crop varieties, seed technologies, biotechnology innovations, and other agricultural interventions aimed at enhancing food security and sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria.

The students also visited key facilities within the Institute, where researchers and technical staff explained the role of scientific research in developing solutions to agricultural challenges and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the country. The interactive sessions enabled the students to gain deeper insights into the importance of agriculture, science, and innovation in national development.

Throughout the visit, the students displayed remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity, engaging researchers with thoughtful questions and demonstrating keen interest in the various technologies and innovations showcased during the tour.

The management of the Institute commended St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary, Catholic Diocese of Zaria, for organizing the excursion and providing the students with an opportunity to experience practical learning in a research environment. Such visits play a vital role in inspiring young minds and broadening their understanding of the contributions of science and agriculture to society.
