The Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is proudly participating in the 2026 Northeast Zonal REFILS Workshop and LCRI SeedConnect, taking place at the Lake Chad Research Institute (LCRI), Km 5 Gamboru-Ngala Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, from 1st  to 4th  June 2026.

The Institute is ably represented at the event by the Assistant Director, Extension, Monitoring and Evaluation, Prof. A. I. Sharifai, and Musa Isah of the Agricultural Extension Unit, who are engaging with researchers, extension professionals, seed industry stakeholders, policymakers, and development partners from across the country.

As part of the event, IAR mounted an impressive exhibition showcasing its wide range of agricultural technologies, improved crop varieties, seed innovations, extension materials, and research outputs developed to support agricultural productivity, food security, and sustainable farming systems in Nigeria.

The Institute’s exhibition stand attracted significant attention and admiration from participants and stakeholders, who expressed keen interest in the technologies and innovations on display. Among the distinguished visitors to the IAR stand were the Secretary to the Borno State Government and the Executive Director of the Lake Chad Research Institute, Prof. Babagana J. Kabir, both of whom commended the Institute’s contributions to agricultural research and technology development.

The event provides a valuable platform for strengthening linkages among research institutions, extension services, seed companies, farmers, and policymakers while promoting the dissemination and adoption of improved agricultural technologies across the Northeast and beyond.

IAR’s participation at the workshop and SeedConnect further demonstrates the Institute’s unwavering commitment to research excellence, technology dissemination, and supporting the transformation of Nigeria’s agricultural sector through innovation and strategic partnerships.

For over 104 years, the Institute for Agricultural Research has remained a leading force in agricultural research, seed development, extension, and innovation, contributing significantly to food security and rural development in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.
