Today, 6th May 2026,
the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria,
hosted Lead Farmers under the Indorama Agricultural Development Centre (IADC),
Zaria on an educational excursion aimed at strengthening practical agricultural
knowledge.
The visit forms part of
Indorama Fertilizer Company Limited’s capacity-building initiative, where
selected lead farmers are trained to serve as knowledge multipliers—equipping
them to return to their communities and train other farmers on improved
agricultural practices.
Led by Dr. Yakubu
Muhammad, Sekinat Akinlawon and Mr. Magaji Auta, the delegation was taken on a
comprehensive tour of the Institute. The farmers were exposed to a wide range
of research activities, improved crop technologies, soil and crop management practices,
and ongoing innovations developed to enhance productivity and sustainability in
Nigerian agriculture.
The excursion provided
a valuable opportunity for the farmers to connect theory with practice, as they
observed firsthand the technologies and methods being promoted through their
training. This hands-on experience is expected to strengthen their capacity to
effectively transfer knowledge and drive adoption of improved practices at the
grassroots level.
Throughout the visit,
the farmers showed great enthusiasm and engagement, interacting with
researchers and gaining deeper insights into modern agricultural techniques
that can transform farming systems and improve yields.
The Institute commends
Indorama Fertilizer Company Limited for this impactful initiative and for
investing in farmer education and extension, which remains critical to
achieving food security and sustainable agricultural development.
The visit was highly
successful and concluded with mutual appreciation and a shared commitment to
continued collaboration in empowering farmers through knowledge and innovation.
Empowering farmers, transforming communities, and advancing
agriculture—together.
