Today, 29th April 2026, the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, had the pleasure of hosting students and staff of ACFAZ Arabic Science and Technology College, Zaria, who visited the Institute for an educational excursion.
The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to
gain practical exposure to agricultural research and innovation beyond their
classroom learning. During the excursion, the students were taken on a guided
tour across different sections of the Institute where they were introduced to
the various research activities, facilities, and technologies developed to
improve agricultural productivity and sustainability in Nigeria.
The students were exposed to several aspects of modern
agriculture including improved crop varieties, seed development, research
farms, and agricultural technologies designed to support farmers and strengthen
food security. Researchers and staff of the Institute also interacted with the
students, explaining the importance of scientific research in addressing
agricultural challenges and promoting sustainable food systems.
The visiting students showed great enthusiasm and curiosity
throughout the tour, actively engaging with the researchers and asking
insightful questions about agricultural science, crop improvement, and the role
of research in national development.
The management of the Institute commended the leadership of
ACFAZ Arabic Science and Technology College, Zaria for organizing such an
educational excursion, noting that exposing young students to research
institutions helps to inspire interest in science, agriculture, and innovation.
The visit ended on a memorable note with expressions of
appreciation from the visiting school for the warm reception and the valuable
learning experience provided by the Institute.
