A proud milestone has
been recorded in the history of the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR),
Ahmadu Bello University Zaria).
For the first time
ever, an IAR memo presented at the 47th Regular Meeting of the National Council
on Agriculture and Food Security (NCAFS) has been approved by the Council
yesterday 3rd November 2025, at Kaduna, Nigeria.
The approved memo,
titled:
“Strengthening National Food Security through
Scaling of IAR’s Improved Crop Varieties and Climate-Smart Technologies”, was
presented by Prof. Nafiu Abdu, Deputy Director, on behalf of the Executive
Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf.
The memo received high
commendation for its relevance, vision, and potential to transform Nigeria’s
agricultural productivity landscape. It underscores IAR’s pioneering role in
developing innovative crop varieties and climate-smart solutions that can
significantly strengthen national food security, improve farmer livelihoods,
and support Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda.
This historic approval
reflects the growing recognition of IAR’s leadership in agricultural research
and development, as well as the unwavering commitment of the Institute’s
management and scientists to drive food system resilience across the nation.
