Today, 16th October 2025, the Institute for Agricultural
Research (IAR), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, held its much-anticipated
Annual Farm Walk at the Institute’s Research Farm, Samaru.
The event was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu
Bello University, ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement,
Research and Innovation), Prof. Sunusi Rafindadi, who also chaired the farm
walk.
In his welcome remarks, the Executive Director of IAR,
represented by the Deputy Director, Prof. Nafiu Abdu, took the Vice-Chancellor
and participants around key research sites, highlighting several achievements
of the current administration. Among the notable developments showcased was the
newly completed fencing of the horticultural garden, along with other
remarkable improvements across the Institute’s facilities and experimental
fields.
Researchers, technicians, technologists, and farmers
enthusiastically participated in the field tour, covering all IAR mandate
crops, including maize, sorghum, cowpea, groundnut, cotton, artemisia, and
castor. The event provided an excellent opportunity for interaction among
scientists, students, and farmers, fostering knowledge exchange and
appreciation of ongoing research innovations at IAR.
It was truly an exciting and fulfilling outing — a day of
learning, collaboration, and pride for everyone present.
