Today, December 17th,
2024, the Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University, warmly
welcomed back its victorious sports team from the 18th Research Institutes
Games Association of Nigeria (RIGAN) Games, held at the Cocoa Research
Institute of Nigeria (CRIN), Ibadan. The team’s outstanding performance filled
the institute with pride and joy!
The welcome ceremony, held at IAR, was led by the Executive Director, Prof. Ado Yusuf, who was ably represented by the Assistant Director Research, Prof. L.J. Bamaiyi. The team was officially presented by the Assistant Director Extension, Monitoring and Evaluation, Prof. A.I. Sharifai, who guided and supported them throughout their successful journey.
IAR athletes brought
home a spectacular haul of medals:
Gold Medals in 100m, 400m, 800m, and shot put
Silver Medals in 200m and long jump
Bronze Medals in dart and volleyball
Adding to the
celebration, the RIGAN Council honored the Executive Director with a special
medal, recognizing his support and commitment to the team. Prof. Ado Yusuf
expressed heartfelt gratitude to the athletes, coaches, and support staff for
their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship. He emphasized that their
achievements reflect the institute’s commitment to excellence not only in
research but also in extracurricular activities.
The atmosphere was
filled with excitement, camaraderie, and pride as the IAR community celebrated
this remarkable achievement. The triumph at the RIGAN Games underscores the
importance of teamwork, perseverance, and dedication.
