2024, the AgroEcology Nigeria Project hosted an exciting Farmers Brown Field
Day at the Institute for Agricultural Research (IAR) Research Farm. This
remarkable event focused on showcasing the successful harvest of sorghum
planted under the project, highlighting progress and the impact on sustainable
agricultural practices.
The Executive Director,
Prof. Ado Yusuf, was ably represented by Prof. Hamza Mani, Programme Leader
Irrigation, who conveyed the Institute’s commitment to empowering farmers and
enhancing sorghum production in Nigeria. The Project Principal Investigator,
Prof. Aisha Abdulkadir, provided an insightful overview of the project and its
achievements thus far, offering a glimpse into the transformative potential of
AgroEcology initiatives.
A notable presence at
the event was Alhaji Yusuf, President of the Sorghum and Millet Association of
Nigeria (SMAN), whose support underscores the strong collaboration between
stakeholders. Farmers from across the region participated with great
enthusiasm, expressing their excitement and asking insightful questions about
the project and its benefits.
Dr. Lemuel Maniyunda,
during his presentation, emphasized the numerous benefits of the project, from
increased yields to improved resilience against climate challenges. He also
delivered the closing remarks, leaving the attendees motivated and optimistic
about the future of sorghum production.
