In the heart of the Northwest region of Nigeria, under the vibrant April sun, a gathering of agricultural minds converged for the Northwest Zonal Research Extension Farmer Input Linkage Systems (REFILS) meeting. Led by the esteemed Executive Director, Prof Ado A. Yusuf, and chaired by the dynamic Dr. Farouk Kurawa MD KNARDA, the stage was set for an enlightening exchange of ideas.
As
the meeting commenced, two pivotal papers took center stage, illuminating the path forward for agricultural development. Alhaji Jubril K. Bukar, President of the National Sunflower Growers, Processors, and Marketers Association of Nigeria, delved into the intricacies of sunflower production and processing, outlining both challenges and promising prospects for national advancement.
Following suit, Alhaji Muhammad D. Aliyu, MD of the Hadeja Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, offered a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges in irrigated crop production, drawing insights from the rich tapestry of the Hadeja Jama’are River Basin.
But the meeting wasn't just about presentations; it was a vibrant forum where stakeholders from diverse backgrounds engaged in stimulating discussions. Representatives from Sokoto and Kebbi States ADPs shared their invaluable perspectives, enriching the dialogue and fostering collaboration.
As the day drew to a close, Dr. R.O. Abdulmalik eloquently presented the distilled wisdom of the gathering in the form of a powerful communique. And in a heartfelt gesture, the Asst. Director Extension, M&E, Prof A. Mukhtar extended a sincere vote of thanks, acknowledging the collective effort that made the event a resounding success.
Among the attendees, a palpable sense of optimism permeated the air. Researchers, extension agents, and farmers alike departed with renewed vigor, empowered by the knowledge exchanged and the connections forged.
